Reflecting on my initial encounter with London a mere year and a half ago, I try to visualise my journey through this project. Raised amidst the serene expanse of a small village enveloped by palm trees, the transition to a bustling metropolis was a daunting prospect.
The sensation of disorientation engulfed me as I navigated the complicated tunnels of the tube and crossed its bustling stations. Amidst a sea of ceaseless billboards and adverts competing for attention, I found myself besieged by sensory overload, overwhelmed by a cacophony of colours, texts, and ostentatious displays yelling for my gaze.
Going out of the tube station wasn’t much of a change. There were even bigger billboards that effectively dominated the sky. The surroundings teemed with hurried crowds, each individual seemingly on a mission, imparting a sense of perpetual motion that demanded my constant participation.
In this relentless urban landscape, the concept of slowing down and introspection seemed a distant luxury, overshadowed by the unwavering momentum of city life.
